With all things, pragmatism is always going to come into play. In turn, that will be driven by what are the (commonly occurring) questions you are going to ask.

For example, if the majority of your questions will always be for the current state, and there are many captured changes, one approach may be to introduce an additional label, i.e. CurrentState. The pros: you don’t even need to worry about checking for properties/timestamps — immediate filter on label. The cons: additional complexity in removing/adding the label accordingly.

There will be other potential ideas that could be used, and those will be driven by what questions you wish to ask.
